Changwon Special City Adds Nighttime Safety Lighting at Changwon Jungang Station

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 21st that it has additionally installed canopy lighting facilities to promote nighttime traffic and pedestrian safety for city bus and taxi users following the improvement project of the Changwon Jungang Station transfer facility.

In June, the city invested a total project cost of 2.67 billion KRW (630 million KRW from the central government, 735 million KRW from the provincial government, and 1.305 billion KRW from the city) to expand the road in front of Changwon Jungang Station from six lanes to eight lanes, creating 53 taxi waiting spaces to enhance transfer convenience for railway users.

The city simultaneously completed the 'Changwon Jungang Station Transfer Facility Improvement Construction,' which installed pedestrian movement facilities (canopy), and the 'Changwon Jungang Station Surrounding Traffic Environment Improvement Construction,' which improved road alignment and installed a roundabout to effectively handle traffic volume and alleviate congestion during peak commuting hours, significantly resolving traffic inconveniences.

This project responded to complaints about the canopy lighting facilities within the transfer facility, where traffic and pedestrian volume are high during nighttime hours. To alleviate inconveniences for railway users and taxi drivers, the installation of canopy lighting at Changwon Jungang Station began in November and was completed in December.

LED lighting fixtures were installed throughout the entire canopy facility to prevent falls during nighttime walking and to secure visibility for vehicles operating at night, thereby improving a comfortable nighttime traffic and pedestrian environment for railway users.

Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “Following the improvement project of the Changwon Jungang Station transfer facility, we promptly carried out the installation of lighting necessary for nighttime pedestrian safety,” adding, “We will continue to strive to improve convenience facilities so that railway users and taxi drivers can travel safely at night.”
