Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) is hosting a promising artists exhibition aimed at promoting the works of local artists and revitalizing art transactions. This event is expected to attract art enthusiasts as it allows not only viewing but also purchasing of artworks.
Gwangju Shinsegae, in collaboration with the planning company 'O Makers Co., Ltd.', which is actively promoting culture and arts in the region, will hold the promising artists exhibition from the 11th to the 20th on the first floor of the main building of Gwangju Shinsegae. The participating artists are collaborative artists of 'Kimnaetgwa,' a representative complex cultural space in Gwangju, showcasing various works including paintings and sculptures all in one place.
Jo Geun-ho, the winner of the 5th Gwangju Shinsegae Art Award, majored in Western painting at Chosun University’s Department of Fine Arts. The artist, inspired by the view of Mudeungsan Mountain, recalled weight and lumpiness, which led to the concept of ‘Mungchi Sansu’ (Lump Landscape). Through this, he created a world in his works where the city and nature harmoniously blend into one.
No Jeong-seok draws attention with works made of stainless steel that express the desire to find self and identity amid chaos. Especially, the white piece set against a red background ahead of Christmas evokes the feeling of looking at snowflakes.
Kim Su-jin portrays modern people who live carrying traces of memories while facing living beings occupying different times.
Park Seong-wan, who has previously captured the landscapes of Gwangju and Jeonnam on canvas, gives viewers a sense of entering an exotic space by boldly overlaying colors such as purple on his works.
Wi Su-bin records the energy of life by capturing it in colors, while Yoo Bong-soon uses the sea as a motif to reveal a sense of spatial form on the canvas with her unique colors, as if permeating a spiritual blank space. Jo Seong-min expresses his artistic world by combining familiar materials around us, such as aluminum cans, to depict what he sees, hears, and feels.
A special event is also prepared for visitors to the exhibition.
On the 16th and 17th, Park Seong-wan will hold a caricature drawing event on the first floor of the main building of Gwangju Shinsegae for two days. The caricature event will be held three times a day: from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, with a participation fee of 20,000 KRW per person.
Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, “We prepared this exhibition to promote local artists and activate art transactions. As demand for home interior decoration using artworks has increased, we look forward to many art lovers visiting.”
