Goheung Kiwi, Full-Scale Shipment Begins

Vitamin C-Rich, Sweet and Tangy Premium Kiwi

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that kiwis, one of the three major fruits (yuzu, pomegranate, kiwi), are being shipped in full swing.

Goheung kiwis have an excellent taste and aroma due to the abundant sunlight and the sea breeze rich in minerals.

Kiwis contain actinidin, which helps protein digestion, essential minerals for metabolism, and various vitamins, so eating one kiwi a day can fulfill the daily recommended amount of vitamin C.

Kiwis are classified by flesh color into red, gold, and green kiwis. The high-sugar red kiwis have been fully harvested, the soft-textured and sweet-tart gold kiwis are currently being harvested, and the refreshing green kiwis are expected to be fully harvested by November.

This year, Goheung-gun was selected for the "Kiwi Premium Production Complex Development Pilot Project" as part of the "Customized Future Strategic Crop Cultivation Project" led by the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services. They established a stable orchard cultivation base over 30 hectares with seven projects including overcoming abnormal weather, demonstration of labor-saving artificial pollination technology, and establishment of a male pollen production complex. Next year, they plan to improve distribution management and develop the Goheung kiwi brand.

An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, "We will do our best to select representative kiwi varieties for stable settlement as Goheung’s representative fruit and to foster a representative brand."
