Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on October 20th the opening of the Songpa Smart Library at the Songpa Book Museum, expanding the number of smart libraries to a total of seven locations where residents can borrow books anytime, 365 days a year.
The "Smart Library" is an unmanned book lending and return machine in the form of a vending machine, allowing users to easily borrow or return books without having to visit a library by installing it close to residents' living areas such as subway stations and community centers.
The newly opened "Songpa Smart Library No. 7" was installed next to the main entrance of the Songpa Book Museum. It operates with a collection of about 500 books, including new releases and bestsellers in categories such as children and youth, humanities, history, and novels.
Additionally, through system integration, the "Chaeksori Service" is also provided, allowing users to borrow books from various fields held by 11 public libraries within the district.
With this, Songpa-gu operates a total of seven smart libraries at Jamsilnaru Station, Bangi Station, Macheon Station, Geoyeo Station, Jangji Station, Jamsil 2-dong Community Center, and the Songpa Book Museum, providing residents with highly accessible reading environments.
Residents who wish to use the service can borrow up to two books per person if they are members of the Songpa-gu Integrated Library. The loan period is 14 days. Operating hours are 365 days a year, from 5 a.m. to midnight, allowing book lending and returns at any time.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "Since the Songpa Book Museum is a museum, it was difficult to borrow books, and there were many requests from residents. I am pleased that with the opening of Smart Library No. 7, residents can easily and conveniently borrow books 365 days a year." He added, "We will continue to strive to expand reading infrastructure so that more residents can feel closer to books and make reading a part of their daily lives."
