OB Beer’s craft beer brand Hand & Malt announced on the 10th the launch of 'SALT 061,' a purple salt beer inspired by the local specialty 'salt' and the regional landmark 'Purple Island.' This new product marks the finale of Hand & Malt’s ‘Embracing Local’ campaign, which has been showcasing craft beers using local specialties since March.
SALT 061 is brewed in a purple color symbolizing Purple Island in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, offering a unique charm rarely seen in typical craft beers. Additionally, salt produced in Sinan-gun is added to reinforce its identity as a local beer. Especially, the 'rimming' ritual, where the rim of the beer glass is coated with purple salt, presents a visually appealing experience that stimulates consumers’ emotions. The product name incorporates the local specialty and the area code ‘061’ to add meaning.
SALT 061 is a German-style ‘Gose’ sour ale beer with a refreshing yet slightly salty taste. Gose is a traditional beer from the Goslar region in Germany, characterized by its acidity and saltiness. SALT 061 is a reinterpretation using Sinan salt in Hand & Malt’s unique Brew Lab method, offering a distinctive taste and aroma compared to conventional sour ales. With an IBU (International Bitterness Units) of 10, it has a mild bitterness, making it easy to enjoy, and an alcohol content of 4.9%.
Alongside SALT 061, a pairing food called ‘Salted Fig Cheesecake’ is also introduced. The Salted Fig Cheesecake combines Sinan’s specialty green figs coated with sugar brulee and a cheesecake sprinkled with Sinan salt, creating a dessert with an intensified sweet and salty appeal.
The Hand & Malt brand manager stated, “By utilizing the mysterious purple color, we have enhanced the aesthetic completeness of the craft beer, and SALT 061, with its exquisite harmony of sour and salty flavors, is presented as the final series beer of this year’s Embracing Local campaign.” He added, “We will strive to carry out innovative and challenging campaigns that align with our brand values next year as well.”
