Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that on the 21st, the day of the district residents, a flower garden was opened on the site of the Seoul Metropolitan Library (Dongdaemun) at 691-3 Jeonnong-dong.
The district conducted a resident survey on how to utilize the long-neglected site of the Seoul Metropolitan Library (Dongdaemun) until the library construction begins, and based on the results, it was decided to create a flower garden.
This was to resolve the inconvenience caused to nearby residents by illegal dumping and pests, and to provide a healing space where residents can find comfort in nature.
The flower garden was named "Jisik-ui Kkotbat" (Flower Garden of Knowledge), reflecting residents' hopes for the establishment of the Seoul Metropolitan Library (Dongdaemun). It is expected to expand green space in the urban area and offer a beautiful space full of flowers to the residents.
"Jisik-ui Kkotbat" consists of a wildflower area, lawn plaza, circular walking path, Book Greeting Happiness Garden, ecological learning center, and event flower beds. The themed spaces are planted with autumn-appropriate flowers such as cosmos, yellow cosmos, zinnia, sunflower, coreopsis, gaura, and cockscomb, with full bloom expected in early October.
The district plans to operate "Jisik-ui Kkotbat" until June 2025, keeping it open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing residents with a space to relax freely and heal with seasonal flowers.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "We have created a beautiful and eco-friendly space full of colorful flowers befitting the flower city of Dongdaemun-gu. This autumn, I hope families, couples, and friends enjoy the leisure in the city at 'Jisik-ui Kkotbat' and make beautiful memories." He added, "We will actively cooperate with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to ensure the library construction proceeds smoothly and will continue to do our best to make Dongdaemun-gu a happy place for residents."
