Ecopro to Invest 2 Trillion Won in Pohang to Build Anode Material Hub 'Blue Valley Campus'

EcoPro, an anode material company, will invest 2 trillion KRW by 2028 to establish the anode material hub 'Blue Valley Campus' in Pohang.

On the 13th, EcoPro announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gyeongsangbuk-do and Pohang City at the Pohang City Hall main conference room to build a new secondary battery anode material production plant.

EcoPro will invest 2 trillion KRW over five years on a 694,000㎡ (approximately 210,000 pyeong) site within the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex to build a value chain hub that performs raw materials, precursors, anode materials, and battery recycling for secondary batteries. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, with the first operation targeted for the second half of 2025.

EcoPro plans to transplant the completed secondary battery value chain 'Closed Loop Eco-System' on a 496,000㎡ (approximately 150,000 pyeong) site in the Pohang Yeongilman General Industrial Complex to the Blue Valley Campus, aiming to develop Pohang as EcoPro's hub.

Currently, EcoPro, the world’s number one company with an annual production capacity of 180,000 tons of secondary battery anode materials, plans to expand its anode material production capacity to 710,000 tons by 2028, including the Blue Valley Campus.

EcoPro has invested approximately 2.9 trillion KRW in the Pohang area since 2016 to complete the Pohang Campus. As of the end of June, it has created about 1,900 jobs and plans to hire an additional 600 employees. Once the Blue Valley Campus is completed, it is expected to employ at least 1,100 more people, resulting in a total employment creation of around 3,700.

Song Hojun, CEO of EcoPro, stated, "As secondary batteries emerge as a national strategic asset, global hegemony competition is intensifying. Through the additional establishment of the Blue Valley Campus, we will firmly secure our position as a global top-tier player in the secondary battery anode material market."
