LG Electronics and GM Recognized as Top Suppliers for 'Infotainment and Telematics'

GM Infotainment and Telematics Best Supplier of the Year

LG Electronics announced on the 26th that it was selected as the 'Best Supplier in the Infotainment and Telematics Category' at the '31st Supplier of the Year Awards' hosted by the global automaker General Motors (GM). LG Electronics explained that this award recognized its competitiveness in automotive components. It also stated that the recognition is significant as it was acknowledged for its efforts to supply parts on time despite difficult situations such as the suspension of production lines at automakers due to semiconductor shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GM evaluates supplier performance annually in the areas of purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and logistics. Among them, companies that have greatly contributed to GM's business performance through technological innovation and quality excellence are selected as Supplier of the Year and rewarded. Including this award, LG Electronics has been selected as GM Supplier of the Year six times in total. In 2016 and last year, it received the 'AutoDrive Award' for quality excellence, and in 2017 and 2020, it received the 'Innovation Award' for contributing to vehicle performance and enhancing customer experience.

LG Electronics has been building a cooperative relationship with GM since 2006, before the launch of the VS Business Division responsible for the automotive components business, by supplying telematics modules to GM. A representative example is supplying 11 key components for GM's electric vehicle 'Chevrolet Bolt EV' launched in 2016. Additionally, it supplied the world's first plastic OLED (P-OLED) based 'Digital Cockpit' system to the premium brand 'Cadillac'.

Eun Seok-hyun, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics' VS Business Division, said, “It is an honor to be recognized as the best partner while continuing a long-standing partnership with GM,” adding, “Our goal is to create innovative customer value that can contribute to the future mobility industry.”

LG Electronics is creating differentiated value by proposing groundbreaking ideas not seen in the traditional automotive industry through in-depth research on customer experience. In particular, in line with the recent trend of shifting the automotive focus from hardware to software, it is solidifying its position as an innovation partner by proactively offering software-based HMI (Human-Machine Interface) solutions, which serve as the interface between humans and machines, to automakers.

As a result of steadily advancing its business over the past 10 years, LG Electronics' VS Business Division achieved a turnaround by recording an operating profit for the first time last year. The accumulated order backlog in the automotive components business exceeded 80 trillion KRW as of the end of last year and continues to expand.
