[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] An employee of an animal hospital was caught by the police after illegally dumping dozens of dog carcasses to save disposal costs.

On the 31st, the Eumseong Police Station in Chungbuk announced that they have summoned and are investigating an animal hospital employee, Mr. A, on suspicion of dumping over 70 dog carcasses in a mountain in Eumseong-gun.

The police launched an investigation after a large number of dog carcasses were found in the mountain the day before. The discarded carcasses ranged from recently deceased to skeletal remains.

The hospital is understood to be operating as an abandoned animal protection center under local government consignment. It is reported that euthanized abandoned dogs, which had not found new owners for a long time, were illegally dumped in a nearby mountain to save on carcass disposal costs.

The police tracked an animal registration microchip found in one of the carcasses to verify the hospital's medical records and identified the suspect.

A police official said, "To determine the cause of death, five carcasses have been sent to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for autopsy."
