This special exhibition is part of the cultural and artistic institution support program funded by the 12 billion KRW Jeju Development Fund, which Lotte Tour Development plans to establish as a regional win-win initiative.
The exhibition will take place at the Insa Art Center in Insadong, Seoul, and will be filled with representative works from different eras reflecting the history of Jeju 4·3 art, along with archival materials reviewing activities over the past 30 years. Participating artists include Ko Gil-cheon, Park Kyung-hoon, Oh Seok-hoon, Kim Soo-beom, Lee Myung-bok, Yang Mi-kyung, Jung Yong-sung, Ko Hyuk-jin, and Lee Kyung-jae.
Since its founding in 1993, the Tamna Artists Association has played an important role in informing the public about the truth of the Jeju 4·3 incident through art by holding the 4·3 Art Festival annually since 1994, focusing on the historical event of Jeju 4·3. In April last year, they presented artworks denouncing domestic and international state violence, from Jeju 4·3 to the Myanmar people's uprising, highlighting the pain and resistance of the common people.
Kang Moon-seok, president of the Tamna Artists Association, said, "Jeju 4·3 continuously raises questions about the meaning of the people's resistance against power and what we must remember," adding, "This exhibition will be a meaningful opportunity to recognize it not only as Jeju's history but as the history of the Republic of Korea."
