[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Hyundai Engineering, in collaboration with the Indonesian government and the global child rights NGO Good Neighbors, has achieved the first success of the ‘Hello E-Dream Project’ being conducted in the Balikpapan region of Indonesia.

On the 31st of last month (local time), Hyundai Engineering held a facility handover ceremony at the newly completed e-learning classroom in Balikpapan, Indonesia, attended by Purnomo M, Head of the Balikpapan Education and Culture Office, officials from the East and North Balikpapan regional governments, Hyundai Engineering representatives, local students, teachers, and community members, the company announced on the 1st.

Hyundai Engineering has completed the establishment of e-learning classrooms at two schools located in the Timur and Utara areas of Balikpapan. Going forward, the company plans to continue efforts in consultation with the Indonesian Education and Culture Office to enable students to access high-quality e-learning courses as soon as possible.

The ‘Hello E-Dream Project’ is part of Hyundai Engineering’s flagship overseas social contribution activity, ‘New Hope School No. 11.’ It expands beyond physical support such as construction, extension, and renovation of educational facilities to support the establishment of practical and sustainable e-learning education infrastructure locally.

In response to the worsening educational environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to improve local community awareness of the e-learning system, e-learning dedicated classrooms equipped with laptops, tablets, internet, and other e-learning educational equipment have been established in five schools in the Balikpapan area of Indonesia. Additionally, three community e-learning centers have been newly built or renovated to enhance access to e-learning infrastructure for local residents, including students, and introduced to the community.

Furthermore, to build a sustainable e-learning environment, locally appropriate and systematic e-learning educational content is provided, along with teacher training programs and operation of an e-learning teacher committee. This will offer more structured and localized e-learning infrastructure to approximately 7,900 local students, residents, teachers, and parents.

Starting with the completion of these two e-learning classrooms, Hyundai Engineering plans to build three additional e-learning classrooms over the next two years, establish community e-learning centers, and implement teacher e-learning training programs.

A Hyundai Engineering official stated, "We plan to continue various overseas social contribution activities that deeply engage with social issues in the countries where we operate and contribute to their resolution."
