[Asia Economy Reporters Bu Aeri and Yoo Byungdon] The 'Korea-US Policy Consultation Delegation' dispatched by President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol to the United States will depart on the 3rd.
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the president-elect, stated at a briefing at the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 1st, "The schedule is tentatively set for 5 nights and 7 days."
The team was formed considering that it is not possible to send a special envoy in the capacity of president-elect. The delegation is expected to play a role in consulting and coordinating policies with the counterpart country before the inauguration.
When asked whether the delegation would pay a courtesy call on U.S. President Joe Biden, Spokesperson Kim said, "The focus is on seeking cooperation measures while coordinating policy consultations in advance before the inauguration," adding, "This visit to the U.S. will also proceed with a schedule to meet key figures who are more practical, professional, and responsible."
Regarding the promotion of the Korea-US-Japan maritime search and rescue exercise, Spokesperson Kim explained, "This is conducted purely for humanitarian purposes, so it is a completely different matter from military exercises aimed at North Korea," but added, "We need to see how the current administration negotiates. We still have about 40 days left in the capacity of president-elect."
