Deputy Foreign Minister Visits Bangladesh for the First Time in 25 Years, "Strengthening ICT and Infrastructure Cooperation"

[Asia Economy Reporter Inho Yoo] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 1st that Choi Jong-geon, the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a policy consultation meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Bangladesh to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT) and infrastructure.

On the 31st of last month (local time), Vice Minister Choi held the 3rd Korea-Bangladesh Policy Consultation Meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with Deputy Foreign Minister Masud Bin Momen, agreeing to enhance mutually beneficial and future-oriented cooperation across various fields beyond the existing textile and garment industries, including ICT, infrastructure, science and technology, and human resource development.

This visit marks the first time in 25 years since 1997 that a Deputy Foreign Minister has visited Bangladesh on a bilateral visit.

Vice Minister Choi requested interest and cooperation in the Korea Export Processing Zone project and actively sought cooperation to resolve difficulties faced by companies operating locally.

Deputy Minister Momen expressed hope for close cooperation and support to achieve sustained economic development even after Bangladesh graduated from the status of least developed country.

Both sides exchanged views on major regional and international issues such as the Korean Peninsula, Rohingya refugees and Myanmar, the Ukraine situation, and climate change.

They discussed cooperation to minimize side effects such as supply disruptions of key items due to international sanctions against Russia. They also agreed on the importance of participating in international efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Myanmar situation and the restoration of democracy.
