[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi-do will install a total of 507 km of new city gas pipelines by next year to expand the supply of city gas.
The construction areas cover all 31 cities and counties, and this project will supply new city gas to approximately 211,000 households across the province.
Gyeonggi-do established a two-year construction plan for city gas supply facilities based on the construction plans submitted by six city gas providers in the province, including Samchully Co., Ltd., and announced it on the 31st of last month.
According to the current City Gas Business Act, the governor must establish and announce a two-year gas supply facility construction plan, including the current year, by the end of March each year. This year, a total project cost of 131.6 billion KRW will be invested to newly install 287 km of city gas pipelines within the province. The areas include 394 locations such as Cheoin-gu in Yongin-si, supplying about 119,000 households.
Next year, an additional 220 km of city gas pipelines will be installed with a total project cost of 93.2 billion KRW. The areas include 264 locations such as Opo-eup in Gwangju-si and Geolpo-dong in Gimpo-si, supplying about 92,000 households.
If installation proceeds as planned, the province will newly supply city gas to a total of approximately 211,000 households.
An official from the province explained, "Including the 2022 city gas pipeline support project funded by the Gyeonggi-do budget, the construction plans for city gas supply facilities of six city gas companies have been concretely finalized for the two years until next year. Whether new city gas supply is available by region can be confirmed with the city or county department in charge of city gas operations or the city gas company supplying the residential area."
Meanwhile, as of the end of December 2021, the city gas supply rate in the province was 84.8%.
