[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Toyota Korea Motors began accepting pre-orders for the new GR86 sports car at official dealer showrooms nationwide starting from the 15th.
The new model, set to be released on May 16, is the successor to the Toyota 86, launched for the first time in 10 years since 2012. The company explained that it is a model incorporating the technology and know-how of Toyota's motorsports brand Gazoo Racing. The new GR86 is the only sports car sold domestically that combines rear-wheel drive with a manual transmission. It features a 2.4ℓ horizontally opposed engine, a 6-speed manual transmission, a dedicated new FR platform, and a high-strength body. It will be available in two versions: Standard and Premium.
Along with this, the mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) RAV4 Hybrid is also set to be released on the 12th of next month, with pre-orders starting from today. It features a hybrid powertrain and the TNGA platform, characterized by driving stability, handling, and design. To commemorate the new car launch, a promotional event offering prizes such as Tomica toys will be held on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be made through the dedicated application, SNS, or the official website.
