[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The American news weekly Time has selected President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as Persons of the Year.
On the 10th (local time), Time revealed that it had chosen the two as Persons of the Year. Time stated that this is the first time that both the President-elect and Vice President-elect have been selected together as Persons of the Year.
For the past 90 years, Time has selected the President-elect as Person of the Year. However, this is the first time that the Vice President-elect has also been chosen as Person of the Year alongside the President-elect.
The editor of Time said, "The combination of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris signifies something historic," adding, "Person of the Year not only reflects what happened during the year but also represents something about where we need to go."
The selection reflects the fact that Vice President-elect Harris has broken barriers as the first woman, Black, and Asian American to hold the vice presidency.
Time also reported that other candidates for Person of the Year included Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), frontline medical workers, racial justice movements, and President Donald Trump.
