[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Two elementary school students in Onam-eup, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province, were consecutively diagnosed with COVID-19. The school they attend has suspended in-person classes for all grades this week.

Namyangju City announced on the 19th that elementary school students A and B, who live in Onam-eup, tested positive for COVID-19.

They were classified as contacts of a family in Onam-eup who tested positive on the 17th, underwent diagnostic testing, and were confirmed positive on the same day.

Previously, health authorities secured a list of 229 people related to the movements of the Onam-eup family, including a daycare center, an elementary school, two academies, a restaurant, and a hospital, and conducted tests.

As a result, A and B tested positive on this day, and a person in their 20s, C, tested positive the day before. The remaining 226 people tested negative.

Health authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations to identify the movements and contacts of A and B. Six close contacts have been identified, who have undergone diagnostic testing and entered self-quarantine.

Additionally, regarding the elementary school that B attends, 25 people have been classified as contacts and are undergoing testing. After consultation with health authorities, the school decided to suspend in-person classes for all grades and conduct remote learning to prevent further spread.
