Ministry of Education to Promote Enactment of the 'Remote Education Basic Act'..."We Will Establish an Evaluation System"

In the 1st Education Committee Work Report, Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Reveals
Expectations Rise for Improved Class Quality and Full-Scale Revitalization

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] As remote education has expanded due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the Ministry of Education is pushing for the enactment of the Remote Education Basic Act (tentative name) to solidify this system.

On the 28th, Yoo Eun-hye, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, announced this plan during the first Education Committee briefing at the National Assembly, stating that they will establish a remote education evaluation system. If the Remote Education Basic Act is enacted, it is expected that the currently implemented remote education will be revitalized and institutional measures to improve the quality of classes will be put in place. The Ministry of Education has previously presented the scope for recognizing remote classes as regular classes and the standards for organization and operation, and plans to amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act in the second half of this year to establish the legal basis.

Meanwhile, to respond to COVID-19, the Ministry of Education has expanded and operated dedicated organizations. They created the COVID-19 Response School Situation General Division and newly established the COVID-19 Response Remote Education Infrastructure Construction Division. Additionally, through the Future Education Committee, Remote Education Policy Advisory Group, and the Education Transformation Dialogue chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, they are identifying educational tasks for the transition to the post-COVID-19 era.
