British media outlet 'The Sun' reported on the 22nd (Korean time) that "Giorgio Chiellini said he was bitten by Luis Su?rez during the World Cup but respects him."
In his autobiography published on the 12th, Chiellini said, "In fact, I respect his competitive spirit," adding, "If Su?rez did not have that competitive spirit, he would have been an ordinary player. What happened at the 2014 World Cup is not a strange incident."
He continued, "I was marking Cavani throughout the match. Suddenly, I realized someone bit my shoulder," and said, "Su?rez and I are similar. I also enjoy facing attackers."
He also said, "After the match, I called Su?rez, and in fact, he did not need to apologize to me," adding, "I don't say it was a bad thing. You have to be intelligent to dominate your opponent."
Previously, Chiellini and Su?rez clashed during the third group stage match of Group D at the 2014 FIFA Brazil World Cup, when Su?rez bit Chiellini's left shoulder, causing a commotion.
After confirming the facts following the match, FIFA imposed sanctions on Su?rez, including a ban from 9 international matches and a fine of 81,300 euros (approximately 110 million KRW).
