[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] On the 19th, there were no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Seoul area.

This is the first time in 47 days since March 3, when zero new COVID-19 cases were recorded, and 87 days since the first confirmed case in Seoul on January 23.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 20th that the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul as of 10 a.m. was 624. Since no new cases occurred after midnight the previous day, the number is the same as the figure announced at the same time on the 19th.

The most recent date with zero confirmed cases in Seoul based on the confirmation date was March 3, 47 days ago. Since then, cluster infections have been reported continuously in Seoul, the metropolitan area, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and the Yeongnam region, causing the number of new confirmed cases to rise again.

However, due to the government's strong implementation of 'social distancing,' the number of cases in Seoul remained in double digits, ranging from 11 to 20 between April 1 and 5, then dropped to 7 on Monday the 6th after the weekend. It then slightly rebounded to 10 on the 7th and 11 on the 8th, before decreasing again to 5, 3, and 2 on the 9th, 10th, and 11th, respectively.

From April 12 to 18, the number of confirmed cases in Seoul by confirmation date continued to decline, with 8, 3, 5, 1, 1, 2, and 1 cases respectively over the past week.

Accordingly, out of the 624 confirmed cases in Seoul to date, 288 patients have recovered and been discharged, while 334 are currently receiving isolation treatment. There have been 2 deaths.

When classifying the cumulative 624 confirmed cases in Seoul by major infection sources, overseas contact accounts for the largest portion with 246 cases (39.4%). By district of residence, Gangnam-gu, which has many returning international students, has the highest number with 62 cases among the 25 districts.
