[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Oven-roasted chicken franchise Goobne Chicken announced on the 16th that its ‘Goobne Volcano’ menu has surpassed 20 million units sold in just five years since its launch.


Goobne Volcano features a special sauce based on gochujang, a Korean chili paste, delivering a savory and addictive spicy flavor that keeps customers coming back for more. Since its release, the total sales amount to approximately 400 billion KRW, with cumulative sales reaching 20 million units. This equates to more than two chickens per person when compared to the population of Seoul (about 9.7 million people).


Leading the way with Goobne Volcano, a variety of spicy products have been launched across the entire food industry from the chicken sector. Goobne Volcano is credited with sparking the spicy flavor craze in chicken, quickly becoming Goobne Chicken’s mega-hit menu. It also pioneered a new food trend by creating the ‘chibap culture’?mixing rice with the magma sauce provided with orders. A recent 4,000 KRW discount event for Goobne Volcano on KakaoTalk Gift, held on the 30th of last month, sold out within three days due to unexpectedly high demand, achieving over 800% sales compared to usual.
