[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Lotte Confectionery announced on the 14th that its limited edition 'Jokeu Bak Bar,' released this month, sold out all prepared quantities within a week, prompting additional production.
Jokeu Bak Bar was launched on March 30, ahead of April Fool's Day. Considering that Jokeu Bak Bar was a limited edition, Lotte Confectionery prepared a generous quantity of 1.8 million units, expecting moderate popularity. However, upon release, sales far exceeded expectations, selling out within a week. Except for a small amount held at retail stores, it is said that Jokeu Bak Bar is currently unavailable. Accordingly, Lotte Confectionery decided to produce additional units, which was not originally planned, and will supply 2 million units to the market as soon as possible.
Jokeu Bak Bar combines the features of Lotte Confectionery's three representative ice bars (Jaws Bar, Screw Bar, and Subak Bar) all at once. It has the twisted shape of the 'Screw Bar,' the dark gray (orange flavor) exterior of the 'Jaws Bar,' and the red part inside from the 'Subak Bar.'
Jokeu Bak Bar heated up online immediately after its release. Certification shots and tasting reviews flooded various social network services (SNS), and consumer inquiries asking where to purchase the product surged. Considering that the 'Upside-down Subak Bar' sold 1 million units in ten days in July 2017, the sales trend of this Jokeu Bak Bar is even faster.
Thanks to the popularity of Jokeu Bak Bar, sales of the original Jaws Bar, Screw Bar, and Subak Bar also increased by about 120% compared to the previous year this month, raising interest in the original products as well.
