[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, stated on the 13th regarding the 21st general election, “The politician we need now is one who stands beside the people, a politician who fights on the front lines for the people.”

On the same day, Ahn said on Twitter, “Even after overcoming the crisis of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), a long-term recession awaits us,” and added, “We cannot overcome the national crisis with incompetent political forces busy dividing interests over high walls.”

He said, “The finish line of the national cross-country march, which started on April 1 at Yi Sun-sin Square in Yeosu, is approaching. Finally, we will complete the 14-day national cross-country march in front of the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul,” and added, “I thought that today’s Republic of Korea resembles the national crisis situation from over 400 years ago.”

He continued, “Politicians over 400 years ago did not govern for the people. What saved the country was the spirit of sacrifice and patriotism of the people who raised militia forces,” and added, “While volunteering for medical services in Daegu, I saw the same spirit of sacrifice and patriotism among the people as 400 years ago.”

Ahn said, “Just as incompetent politicians plunged Joseon into a national crisis over 400 years ago, we faced the COVID-19 situation amid an economic crisis due to the current administration’s incompetence,” and added, “Just as Admiral Yi Sun-sin did over 400 years ago, the People’s Party will do so in the 21st National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. We will stand with the people, fight for the people, and fight on the people’s side.”
