LG Electronics Announces 3.8% Wage Increase This Year... Introduction of Infertility Leave

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Electronics has raised wages for production workers by 3.8% this year.

On the 27th, according to LG Electronics, LG Electronics and the labor union held wage and collective bargaining negotiations the day before and agreed on a 3.8% wage increase rate for production workers this year. For office workers, the wage increase rate is applied differently based on individual performance. Last year, the wage increase rate for production workers was 4.3%.

An LG Electronics official explained regarding this wage negotiation, "In the difficult situation caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), both labor and management agreed on overcoming the crisis based on mutual trust."

Labor and management also introduced infertility leave as part of the company's social responsibility in the era of low birth rates. Accordingly, up to three months of unpaid leave can be taken. The existing infertility leave of 1 paid day (2 unpaid days) has been expanded to 3 paid days.

LG Electronics has maintained 31 years of uninterrupted wage and collective bargaining agreements from 1990 to this year.

Meanwhile, LG Display recently decided through collective bargaining to raise the average wage of skilled workers by 1.9%. For office workers, similar to LG Electronics, the wage increase rate will vary according to individual performance.
