A Three-Minute Meeting with Park Geun-hye... Park Urges End to Fasting, Jang Accepts

Former President Park Geun-hye visited Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, on January 22 and urged him to end his hunger strike. Jang stated, "I am ending my fast today for a longer and greater fight," and after eight days of fasting, he stopped his hunger strike and was transported to the hospital.

On this day, former President Park visited the National Assembly Rotunda in the morning and spoke with Jang, who had been fasting for eight days, for about three minutes. She told Jang, "I was very worried to hear that you were fasting with only water and salt," and added, "For the sake of the future, I hope you will now stop fasting and regain your health."

Park: "It Is Unacceptable for the Government and Ruling Party to Remain Silent Despite the Leader's Hunger Strike"

She continued, "Some may criticize that this hunger strike has yielded nothing, since the government and the ruling party have not accepted the special prosecution investigation into the Unification Church and nomination bribery that you demanded. However, that is absolutely not the case," adding, "The people will recognize the sincerity of your fight to the death for what you believe is right as a politician."

She criticized the government and the ruling party, saying, "It is unacceptable, from a standpoint of political morality, for them to remain silent despite the leader's hunger strike."

Jang Donghyuk: "The People's Lament Over Lee Jaemyung's Tyranny Will Blaze Like Wildfire Starting Today"

Jang, who had rejected repeated calls from senior party members and medical staff to end his hunger strike, decided to be transported to the hospital immediately after former President Park's visit.

At the National Assembly Rotunda, Jang stated, "I am ending my fast today for a longer and greater fight," and added, "The people's lament over the tyranny of the corrupt Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party will blaze like wildfire starting today. The true hunger strike begins now."
