A vessel belonging to CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest shipping company based in France, was reportedly attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The projectile that struck the vessel is believed to have been launched from the Iranian coast, raising the possibility of an attack by Iranian forces.

According to Politico on May 6 (local time), CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest shipping company, issued a statement saying its vessel, the San Antonio, was attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. As a result of the attack, some crew members were injured and the ship sustained damage; the injured crew members are currently receiving medical support.

The vessel is suspected to have been targeted by an Iranian missile. Citing sources, the French daily Le Parisien reported that the projectile that struck the vessel was launched from the Iranian coast, causing a fire in the ship’s engine room.

Maud Br?jeon, spokesperson for the French government, said at a briefing following a cabinet meeting that "the shelling targeting the CMA CGM vessel clearly demonstrates that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains dangerous."
