Jeonbuk Province Launches Major Shift in Specialty Vehicle Industry

258 Billion Won Secured for Construction Machinery Commercialization Support Project

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province is set to accelerate the entry of specialty vehicle companies into the construction machinery sector by establishing a collaborative system with Gimje City, Korea Construction Equipment Technology Institute, and other partners.

On May 6, Jeonbuk Province announced that it has secured the 'Support Project for Commercialization of Construction Machinery for Diversification of Key Industrial Ecosystems,' a contest project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. This project will be carried out in the Gimje area from 2026 to 2030, with a total project budget of 25.85 billion won.

With this selection, Jeonbuk Province has established a commercialization foundation that supports the entire process from product planning to market entry. The province has built a full-cycle support system-including component design, performance verification, testing and evaluation, prototype production, and commercialization-that will help reduce the burden on companies.

In particular, by setting up both demonstration infrastructure and a testing and evaluation system, the time and cost required for new product development will be reduced. This is also expected to lower technical entry barriers for small and medium-sized specialty vehicle companies and increase their responsiveness to market demands.

The project will be implemented in stages over five years. A demonstration center for conversion and diversification of construction machinery will be established in Horizon 2 Industrial Complex in Gimje City. This facility will be equipped with both a research building and a real-vehicle testing building, and it will operate in a way that allows core component testing and real-vehicle verification to be conducted simultaneously. Equipment for collecting and analyzing design data and for simulation-based design optimization will also be introduced. In addition, training programs will be offered on hydraulic and pneumatic automation design, physical AI-based education, and the entire design and verification process, with the aim of developing field-oriented professionals.

Jeonbuk Province believes this project will boost the competitiveness of the region's core specialty vehicle industry and serve as a turning point for expanding into the construction machinery sector. Once a demonstration-based technical support system is established, the province expects not only to enhance the technological capabilities of local companies, but also to positively impact their expansion into the global special construction machinery market.

Yang Sunhwa, Director of the Future Advanced Industry Bureau of Jeonbuk Province, stated, "Based on demonstration infrastructure and a full-cycle support system, we will enhance the technological competitiveness of local companies and support their entry into the global market."
