Hyunil Jo, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Gyeongsan, held his campaign office opening ceremony on May 6, officially launching his bid for victory in the local elections scheduled for June 3.
The opening ceremony, held in the afternoon, drew a crowd of 2,000 people, including party members, supporters, and local residents, making it a major event.
Notably, the event was attended by Cheolwoo Lee, Governor of North Gyeongsang Province; Jong-Sik Lim, Superintendent of Education for North Gyeongsang Province; Seongro, the head monk of Eunhaesa Temple and chief of the 10th parish of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism; key officials of the People Power Party; and respected local elders. Their presence lent strong support to Jo’s bid for re-election and reinforced the determination to achieve victory.
In his greeting, Jo stated, "Throughout the 8th term of local autonomy, I have devoted myself solely to the development of Gyeongsan and the happiness of its citizens, tying my shoelaces tightly and running forward."
He emphasized, "To successfully complete major projects that will transform the map of Gyeongsan-such as the Hyundai Premium Outlet and the creation of the Imdang Unicorn Park-without interruption, it is essential to have a mayor with 'proven competence' and 'strong drive.'"
Jo then presented his key pledges for the 9th term of local government to build a "Greater Gyeongsan, Happier Citizens," which include: ▲ establishment of a robot cluster in the Gyeongsan 5th Industrial Complex ▲ construction of a Gyeongsan-style public kids' caf? ▲ ZERO interruptions in 24-hour, year-round childcare ▲ creation of a stay-type tourism belt in connection with the Hyundai Premium Outlet ▲ and implementation of the Gyeongsan Safe Care program for people with disabilities throughout their life cycle. He appealed for support by saying, "City administration is not a place for practice, but for proving oneself. Please give me the opportunity to complete the leap forward that has already begun in Gyeongsan."
One citizen attending the ceremony commented, "Since Mayor Jo took office, I have noticed that Gyeongsan has become visibly more vibrant. A strong mayor needs to serve one more term so that the seeds sown can bear great fruit," expressing support for Jo.
Meanwhile, starting with this opening ceremony, Jo plans to continue 'on-site tours for the livelihoods of citizens' across towns and districts, broadening his contact with residents and sequentially announcing detailed, region-specific pledges.
