Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited China, where he held talks with Wang Yi, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Araghchi requested China's active involvement regarding the ceasefire issue. This move is interpreted as an effort to seek China's mediation and assistance in negotiations with the United States.

According to China's state-run Xinhua News Agency on May 6, Minister Araghchi, who visited Beijing that day, stated during his meeting with Minister Wang, "The issue of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open can be resolved quickly," expressing hope that China would continue to play an active role in facilitating a ceasefire. He added, "The international community shares a common concern about the resumption of normal and safe passage through the strait," and emphasized, "China hopes that the parties involved will respond swiftly to the strong demands of the international community."

Minister Wang replied, "The regional situation is currently at a crucial turning point from war to peace," adding, "China believes that a comprehensive ceasefire is essential, that resuming hostilities is undesirable, and that it is especially important to continue negotiations." He also stated, "We highly appreciate Iran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons," and asserted, "Iran has a legitimate right to peaceful use of nuclear energy."

On this day, Minister Araghchi visited China at a delicate time when negotiations with the United States were intensifying and ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's expected visit to China. With President Trump anticipated to visit China around May 14, Iran requested proactive mediation and support from China.

Meanwhile, during the meeting between Minister Araghchi and Minister Wang, the two sides agreed to further strengthen their "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" in celebration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Iran. The Iranian side affirmed its adherence to the "One China" principle and expressed support for China's efforts to safeguard its core interests, while China described Iran as a "trusted strategic partner" and pledged to expand high-level exchanges and mutual support.
