Phil Mickelson (USA) will not participate in this season's second major tournament, the PGA Championship.

Reuters and AP reported on May 5 (local time) that Mickelson had informed the PGA Championship organizing committee of his withdrawal due to a family health issue. Mickelson announced his absence after the PGA of America, which hosts the tournament, released the list of 154 players set to compete. Previously, Mickelson had already announced a "long break" due to family matters ahead of the Masters last month.

Mickelson is a veteran with a total of 45 wins on the PGA Tour, including six major titles. At the 2021 PGA Championship, he became the oldest major champion in history by winning at the age of 50 years and 11 months. In 2022, Mickelson moved to LIV Golf. Due to his withdrawal, Max Homa (USA) has secured a spot in the tournament.

Tiger Woods (USA), who announced a suspension of his activities after being arrested on DUI charges in March, will also not participate in the PGA Championship. Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson (USA), whose eligibility expired at the end of last year, has received a special invitation to compete. Johnson has won two major tournaments-the 2016 US Open and the 2020 Masters-and is currently active in LIV Golf.

This year's PGA Championship will take place from May 14 to 17 at Aronimink Golf Club (par 70, 7,394 yards) in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, USA.
