Suncheonman National Garden Successfully Hosts Candlelight Concert

Candlelight Concert Draws a Large Crowd
High Level of Civic Consciousness Impresses Audience

On May 5, Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province announced that the "Candlelight Concert" held at the Space Hub area of Suncheonman National Garden attracted about 12,000 spectators, filling the garden's spring night to the brim.

The event venue was transformed into a grand outdoor garden theater, where splendid spring flowers such as alliums, peonies, geraniums, and chrysanthemums mingled with 15,000 candles. The delicate melodies of a string quartet, along with the emotional performances of singers Choi Yuri and Lee Seokhoon, provided the audience with an unforgettable night.

Families, friends, and couples spread picnic mats on the grass and enjoyed the garden at night. The scene, where green lawns, a tranquil lake, a golden sunset, and lyrical music harmonized, drew admiration from the audience.

Both at the venue and on social media, reactions included, "I never knew the National Garden could be such a beautiful space," "Everything-relaxation, trees, breeze, youth, and music-was perfect," and "It felt like stepping into a painting."

In particular, comments such as "The candlelight performance was touching, but what moved me even more was how citizens enjoyed the concert in such an orderly manner" highlighted the view that the high level of civic consciousness elevated the quality of the event.

Despite the large crowd, the event was managed safely and smoothly. Suncheon City maintained order by installing fences in advance, securing safety zones, and operating separate areas for picnic mats and chairs. Volunteers, model drivers, police, fire and medical teams, and environmental crews worked together to ensure the safety of all attendees.

Most notably, there was no damage to the flowers, which had been a concern, and visitors took their trash home themselves, displaying exemplary civic responsibility.

On-site volunteers commented, "I actually felt healed while volunteering," and "The atmosphere created by the garden, music, and citizens was so beautiful, I will remember it for a long time."

A city official stated, "A garden is not just a place to see flowers; it is a platform that encourages people to linger, fosters culture, and drives the local economy," adding, "Suncheonman National Garden will continue to create the best garden content in Korea, where nature, culture, and the dignity of its citizens are harmoniously integrated."

The Candlelight Concert is regarded as a symbolic example that demonstrates Suncheon's vision of 'a city where culture blooms in the garden', going beyond a simple performance.

In particular, nighttime stay-type content allowed visitors to remain in the garden and downtown area late into the night, revitalizing local businesses such as restaurants, cafes, and accommodations, once again proving Suncheon's strategy of being 'a city where ecology drives the economy'.
