KIAT Supports K-Bio Expansion into Europe and Joint R&D

The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) has launched support for international joint research and development (R&D) to help domestic medical and biotech companies enter the European market and secure advanced technologies. The initiative aims to expand access to the global bio ecosystem through collaboration with European research institutes and companies.

KIAT announced that on the 6th (local time), it attended the Eureka Global Innovation Summit in Basel, Switzerland, together with domestic medical and biotech companies, supporting international joint R&D consultations and partner discovery with European academia, industry, and research institutions.

The Eureka Global Innovation Summit is an annual event organized by EUREKA, a global R&D support program, to help member countries find technological cooperation partners. This year, the event attracted around 1,000 participants from more than 40 countries.

Previously, on April 27, KIAT announced the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s “2026 Eureka Network Advanced Bio International Joint R&D Project” and is currently recruiting participating companies and institutions. This is the first time that Korea is supporting international joint research in the advanced bio sector through the Eureka program.

In addition, on the 5th (local time), KIAT, together with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), hosted the “Korea-Switzerland Biohealth Partnership Forum,” providing 15 domestic biohealth companies with opportunities for technical consultations with overseas Korean engineers.

KIAT President Jeon Yoonjong stated, “Strategic collaboration with outstanding overseas research institutions is essential to respond to the global competition for technological supremacy. We will support domestic academia, industry, and research institutions so they can enter Europe’s bio ecosystem more deeply and achieve tangible business results.”
