Amid controversy surrounding the Democratic Party's proposal of a special prosecutor bill that could cancel the prosecution of President Lee Jaemyung, Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, on May 6 criticized Park Soo-hyun, the Democratic Party's Chungnam gubernatorial candidate, stating, "This is politics of evading responsibility, slipping away like a loach."
During an interview on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jongbae's Perspective' that day, Governor Kim commented on Park's evasion of questions regarding the so-called 'Fabricated Indictment Special Prosecutor Bill', saying, "It was expected," and made the aforementioned remarks.
Previously, Governor Kim had called on candidate Park to make a public statement regarding the special prosecutor bill for cancellation of prosecution, which Park was involved with while serving as the Democratic Party's chief spokesperson.
Governor Kim further criticized, "Candidate Park, during his time as spokesperson, repeatedly supported this bill," adding, "Attempting to erase criminal charges from before the presidency undermines the legal system that should guarantee equality before the law, and leads us toward dictatorship."
He continued, "Even former President Lee Myungbak was sent to prison through trial by those same people, and yet now, with even more charges, they are trying to erase those as well? Refusing to take responsibility just because it is disadvantageous to oneself is not the duty of a politician," he pointed out.
On May 4, President Lee Jaemyung delivered a message through Hong Ikpyo, the Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, asking, "Please let the Democratic Party make a considered decision."
Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party, also stated on May 5 regarding the 'Special Prosecutor Bill to Investigate Fabricated Investigations and Indictments', "We will gather the collective will of the people, party members, and National Assembly members to make the best choice," suggesting that the special prosecutor bill is likely to be handled in July, after the local elections.
