The "Banwol Dyeing Root Industry Specialized Complex Support Project," currently being promoted by Ansan City in Gyeonggi Province, is playing a vital role as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy by delivering tangible results such as enhancing the product competitiveness and boosting the sales of textile companies within the complex.
According to Ansan City on May 6, the city has been implementing a three-year support plan since last year, centered around the Banwol Fashion Color Business Cooperative (Chairman Park Youngtae), which was designated as the first "root industry specialized complex" in the textile sector in 2024. This project, jointly supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Gyeonggi Province, and Ansan City, aims to improve outdated complex facilities and strengthen the global competitiveness of companies within the complex.
Last year, the "Eco-friendly and Advanced Material Development, Production, and Marketing Support Project" was carried out for 11 companies. The project provided end-to-end support, from prototype development to promotion and marketing, thereby increasing product completion rates and expanding new sales channels for participating companies. The city expects that this will generate approximately 4.7 billion won in sales going forward.
Leeist Trading Co., Ltd., a participating company, is cited as a representative success case. Through this project, the company developed five new product lines and participated in "Preview in Seoul (PIS) 2025," the largest textile exhibition in Korea, achieving sales of over 60 million won.
Reflecting the high satisfaction of participating companies and their requests for expanded support last year, Ansan City plans to further increase the project scale next year. The support fund per company for the "Eco-friendly and Advanced Material Development, Production, and Marketing Support Project" will be raised to 16 million won, and a joint pavilion with four booths will be set up at "Preview in Seoul (PIS) 2026" to help participating companies develop new sales channels.
A city official from Ansan stated, "The textile and processing industries, which have been struggling due to the global economic downturn and high exchange rates, are now laying the foundation for a new leap forward through this specialized complex support," and added, "We will continue to implement multifaceted support measures that reflect the voices from the field to improve the structure and competitiveness of the local root industry."
Meanwhile, applications for companies wishing to participate in the 2026 project will be accepted in May, and further details can be found on the website of the Korea Textile Development Institute.
