On May 6, LG Electronics announced that it has recently remodeled and reopened ThinQ Real. First launched in 2022, ThinQ Real is a space established to advance AI technology based on real-life data and to quickly apply these advancements to products and services.

The key focus of this remodeling is "realism" and "popularity." While the previous setup was divided into two spaces for households of 1-2 and 3-4 people, focusing on studying diverse lifestyles and collecting data, the newly revamped space is modeled after a typical 30-pyeong (approximately 99 square meters) home, which is the standard size for public housing in Korea. This allows for a more precise and in-depth analysis of the most common lifestyles, as well as movement and usage patterns in each area of the home.

The interior areas-including the entrance, living room, kitchen, bedroom, dressing room, and bathroom-have all been finished to replicate an actual home, down to the materials, wiring, and lighting. An integrated AI home has been created by organically connecting the AI home hub "ThinQ ON," dozens of AI appliances, and various IoT devices and sensors. Existing installed products are continuously upgraded with the latest features.

Researchers experiment with and verify new AI technologies and automation scenarios tailored to customer living patterns in this space, then apply these findings to AI home solutions. The activities conducted here are converted into data for use in a variety of research and development projects.

At the center of ThinQ Real is the home hub "ThinQ ON," equipped with generative AI. ThinQ ON communicates with customers in everyday language, understands context, and learns and predicts daily routines. It maintains a 24-hour connection with dozens of AI appliances and IoT sensors in the home, optimizing the environment at all times.

ThinQ Real also serves as a showroom for B2B (business-to-business) clients. LG Electronics plans to showcase the utility and scalability of its AI home solutions to a wide range of customers, including construction firms, interior design companies, and telecommunications providers.

Located within LG Science Park, the company’s global R&D control tower, ThinQ Real facilitates collaboration among more than 10,000 R&D personnel from the four business divisions and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division. This strengthens the connection between technology development and commercialization.
