SK Bioscience announced on April 30 that its 'Global R&PD Center' located in Songdo, Incheon, has received Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) under the LEED program.
LEED is a certification system that comprehensively evaluates the sustainability of buildings, including energy efficiency, water conservation, resource recycling, indoor environment, and location. It is the most widely used green building standard in the world. The Gold rating is a high-level certification awarded to buildings that achieve a balanced implementation of sustainability and operational efficiency.
SK Bioscience received high marks for introducing high-efficiency equipment to reduce energy consumption, as well as incorporating designs that consider water conservation and resource utilization. The positive evaluation also reflected the center's spatial design, which simultaneously considered indoor environment and research efficiency to enhance the productivity and work environment of research personnel.
The Songdo Global R&PD Center serves as an integrated research hub that connects research and development (R&D), process development (PD), and quality analysis functions in one place. It is designed so that the entire process, from research stages to process establishment and technology transfer, can be carried out within a single space.
Following the 'L HOUSE' plant in Andong, which received LEED certification in 2013, SK Bioscience has now secured eco-friendly certification for all its business sites, extending to the Global R&PD Center where its headquarters and research labs are located.
Jaeyong Ahn, CEO of SK Bioscience, stated, "The Songdo Global R&PD Center is a core hub for developing innovative technologies in the vaccine and biotech fields, and is a research infrastructure that reflects our management philosophy of pursuing sustainable growth." He added, "We will continue to apply ESG perspectives throughout the entire R&D process to enhance our global-level eco-friendly competitiveness."
