Skytrax is a London-based aviation consultancy and assessment agency established in 1989. Since 1999, it has conducted a comprehensive annual evaluation of airline service elements worldwide, assigning ratings from a minimum of 1 star to a maximum of 5 stars, which represents the best in global airline service quality. The 'World Airline Star Rating' by Skytrax is recognized as a prestigious assessment in the aviation industry, and only 10 airlines worldwide, including Korean Air, currently hold the 5-star rating.
This year’s evaluation thoroughly assessed the quality of Korean Air’s customer-facing services. The evaluation covered more than 550 items, including check-in and transfer procedures, airport lounge offerings, in-flight meals, amenities, cabin service, in-flight entertainment (IFE), and aircraft seating.
Korean Air received high marks for its web and mobile sites, passenger transport, lounge and in-flight services, IFE systems, and aircraft.
The lounge category score saw a significant increase compared to the previous year. With the opening of the First Class and Prestige West Lounges this month, Korean Air has completed the construction of seven next-generation lounges at Incheon International Airport over the past three years and five months. In March, Korean Air also unveiled its newly renovated flagship lounge at Los Angeles (LA) International Airport in the United States. Going forward, the airline plans to expand and renew its lounges at major international hub airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, with plans to open them to the public within this year.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, commented, "Korean Air's sustained achievement of the top 5-star airline certification for six consecutive years is the result of its continuous efforts to deliver outstanding passenger experiences. The airline received high praise for consistently maintaining excellent standards in areas such as cabin comfort, in-flight meals, and overall service quality both onboard and at airports."
A Korean Air representative stated, "Korean Air has consistently worked to enhance service quality based on customer satisfaction and value creation. We will continue to make investments and improvements to provide an enhanced travel experience that exceeds customer expectations."
