This event has been organized to broaden awareness of the social and cultural roles of museums in commemoration of International Museum Day, and to expand opportunities for the public to enjoy cultural experiences. The theme for this year is "Museums for a United World: Bridging Divides," as selected by the International Council of Museums.

Main programs include "Museum×Meet," which introduces representative collections; "Museum×Enjoy," which offers hands-on programs such as exhibitions, educational sessions, and performances; and "Museum×Stroll," where participants tour regional museums, art museums, and cultural landmarks with expert guides.

"Museum×Meet" will focus on the theme "First, and the Beginning," highlighting 50 signature artifacts from 50 institutions nationwide. There will also be lectures, hands-on activities, and storytelling exhibitions linked to these collections.

"Museum×Enjoy" will feature 18 institutions from across the country. Through 16 special exhibitions and experiential programs, this initiative will demonstrate how museums and art museums can transform past wounds and present conflicts into narratives of solidarity.

"Museum×Stroll" will be held 12 times in four regions: Seongbuk in Seoul, Gongju in South Chungcheong Province, Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province, and Jeju. This program offers guided tours of local museums, art museums, and cultural sites with expert commentary.

Jung Hyangmi, policy chief for culture and arts at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "'2026 Museum·Art Museum Week' is an event that highlights the new value of museums and art museums and introduces their diverse appeal. We hope that many citizens will rediscover the value of culture and the arts in their daily lives."
