Due to the characteristics of Pocheon as a mixed urban-rural area, emergency vehicles often have to travel long distances and navigate complex signal systems, and frequently need to pass through neighboring municipalities to reach advanced hospitals. This makes Pocheon a region where the introduction of an emergency vehicle priority signal system is particularly necessary.
Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, a specialized institution that has successfully led projects such as the "Gyeonggi-do Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Advancement Project" and the "Yongin City ITS Expansion Project," plans to leverage its accumulated expertise and know-how in this new initiative.
In particular, the corporation intends to enhance system stability by thoroughly reviewing technology and managing schedules and quality throughout the entire project. It will also support seamless signal integration with other municipalities and related institutions, placing a strong emphasis on improving the operational efficiency of emergency vehicles.
Park Jaeman, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, stated, "I feel a great sense of responsibility in managing the emergency vehicle priority signal system, which protects citizens' precious lives," and added, "We will fully mobilize our ITS project management expertise to create a faster and safer traffic environment that Pocheon citizens can truly experience."
He also emphasized, "Going forward, we will actively introduce innovative transportation technologies to help Gyeonggi-do become a leading municipality in smart transportation."
Through this Pocheon City project, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation plans to further accelerate the advancement of the metropolitan transportation system. In preparation for the commercialization of autonomous driving and future mobility, the corporation aims to connect and utilize traffic signal data and lay the foundation for an "intelligent communication infrastructure" that enables communication between infrastructure and vehicles, while also expanding traffic signal data sharing systems among neighboring municipalities to contribute to the establishment of a "metropolitan smart transportation network" in the Seoul Capital Area.
