The Hwasun County Culture and Tourism Foundation announced on April 29 that the 1st Hwasun Uphill Film Festival, held at Hwasun Cinema, successfully concluded with enthusiastic support from local residents and visitors.
This year’s festival, themed “Coal Mines and Labor,” showcased a diverse selection of works that offered an in-depth look into the region’s history and daily life. Going beyond mere film screenings, the event served as a cultural platform where local residents could connect and empathize, adding greater significance to the occasion.
The lineup included both domestic and international films such as “1980 Sabuk,” “Grandmother, Me, and the Dandelion,” “Perfect Days,” “Scrapper,” “I, Daniel Blake,” and “Ode to My Father,” each resonating deeply with the audience.
Notably, after some screenings, guest talks (GV) were held, providing meaningful opportunities to share diverse perspectives on the films and deepen viewers’ understanding of each work.
After the screening of “1980 Sabuk,” director Park Bongnam and producer Han Kyungsu participated to share background stories about the era depicted and the production process, eliciting deep empathy from the audience. Following the screening of “Grandmother, Me, and the Dandelion,” director Park Kibok engaged in a discussion, sharing the film’s message and fostering communication with viewers.
The performance program that followed the film screenings further extended the emotional impact and heightened the atmosphere at the venue.
Meanwhile, Hwasun Cinema, operated by the Hwasun County Culture and Tourism Foundation, plans to continuously offer a variety of films and cultural programs in the future to further expand cultural opportunities for local residents.
