원본보기 아이콘On the 29th, Yeo Hyungu, Director-General for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, met with Qatar’s top commerce official to discuss investment cooperation in advanced industries such as manufacturing artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, bio, and semiconductors. This initiative aims to expand the scope of cooperation from an energy-centered partnership to future-oriented industries as a whole.
Director-General Yeo held talks in Seoul with Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Commerce of Qatar, on this day. This meeting was arranged as a follow-up to further develop the cooperation measures discussed during the Qatari visit by the President’s Special Envoy for Strategic Economic Cooperation on April 13.
Director-General Yeo recognized Qatar’s rapid return to stability despite the situation in the Middle East, and stressed that the two countries have built a close relationship through cooperation on natural gas imports and energy infrastructure development. He went on to say that both sides agreed to combine Korea’s manufacturing competitiveness with Qatar’s capital and industry diversification strategy to broaden strategic investment cooperation centered on advanced industries.
Both sides in particular focused on the potential for cooperation in future industries, including the AI transformation (AX) of manufacturing and robotics. Director-General Yeo introduced the “M.AX Alliance” and domestic manufacturing AI companies, and proposed expanding cooperation by linking AI solutions for on-site manufacturing challenges with robotics infrastructure projects.
Additionally, cooperation in the bio and semiconductor sectors was also a key agenda item. Director-General Yeo explained that Korean companies are expanding their presence in Qatar in areas such as genetic analysis and pharmaceuticals, and requested strengthened investment cooperation in the bio sector. In the semiconductor field, he emphasized the technological prowess of domestic AI semiconductor fabless companies and raised the need for expanded cooperation.
The two sides agreed to share information on interested companies and related data to identify promising projects going forward, and to continue investment consultations.
Director-General Yeo stated, “This meeting is an important opportunity to translate the trust built through the special envoy’s visit into tangible results in advanced industry investment,” adding, “Based on our energy cooperation, we will broaden the horizon of collaboration into future industries such as manufacturing AI and bio.”
