This spring, Hwangryonggang in Jangseong County, Jeollanam-do will be filled with music. From May 23 to 25, visitors to Jangseong Hwangryonggang can fully enjoy the "Music Healing Festival."
According to Jangseong County on April 29, the county has hosted the Hwangryonggang Flower Festival every spring and autumn. However, in recent years, as the climate has changed, predicting the blooming period of spring flowers has become difficult, which has also made festival operations more challenging.
After much deliberation, Jangseong County decided to bring the "Music Festival," a major event of the festival, to the forefront. As its official name, "Jangseong Hwangryonggang Music Healing Festival," clearly indicates, the festival’s unique character is unmistakable. It is a “healing festival” that brings together nature, music, and people, and features a variety of participatory programs based on creative planning aimed at attracting younger audiences.
At 6 p.m. on the opening day, May 23, the main stage at Hwangryong Garden will feature performances by the singer Hong Jinyoung, known for "Love Battery," as well as trot singers Park Seongon, Ji Changmin, and Jeong Sora, who will energize the festival. After the celebratory performances, a spectacular fireworks display will mark the official opening.
On the evening of May 24, singer-songwriter Roy Kim will take the stage at the "Music Festival." Having begun his career by winning Superstar K Season 4, he has maintained steady popularity through appearances on various shows, including JTBC’s "Begin Again 2." Although it has already been more than 10 years since his debut, the excitement and freshness that his music brings remain unchanged. He is expected to deliver sweet songs that capture the emotion of spring during this performance as well.
There will also be performances from outstanding female vocalist Lee Yejun, young singer-songwriter Park Wonn, five-member band Can't Be Blue, known for their debut song "In the Words I Called Love," and the indie duo Unofficial.
There will be opportunities to get front-row seats to the performances. Anyone who spends at least 50,000 won in Jangseong during May, or who has donated at least 100,000 won to the Jangseong County Hometown Love Donation since the beginning of this year, can enter the "Front Row Event." However, as seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, it is advisable to check the situation at the venue on the day of the festival.
The first-ever "Jangseong Busking National Competition" is also drawing attention. After a fierce preliminary round, 20 finalist teams will perform in the main competition on May 24 at the ground golf course, Seosamgyo, and Cheongbaekri Garden. The 10 teams that pass the main round will advance to the final, which will be held at 5 p.m. on the last day of the festival, May 25, on the main stage at Hwangryong Garden. Winners will receive prize money as well as the special privilege of performing as part of the autumn festival lineup.
There are plenty of fun activities as well. Under Jangseong Bridge, visitors can ride water bikes, dolphin boats, and family boats. There will also be a healing train, wooden play stations, and music play areas. Unique programs include the "Wish Bridge," where you can attach a wish note to Healing Bridge, and the "Stay for Three Hours Zone," which rewards those who enjoy the festival for more than three hours with a gift.
If you want to take a break and enjoy the cool river breeze, visit Hwangmir Land, the Healing Herb Garden, or the willow tree zone near Munhwa Bridge. Hwangmir Land is especially recommended for its "Book Camp Picnic Zone," where you can read books under an Indian tent. The site also features a loess barefoot walking path, water play facilities, a hobbit cave, and a playground with kinetic sculptures, making it a great spot for the whole family.
A representative from Jangseong County said, "We hope you can take some time to recharge at the 'Jangseong Hwangryonggang Music Healing Festival,' where beautiful spring scenery and music come together."
