"Children's Day in the Prehistoric Era"... Gangdong District to Host Family Experience Event at Amsa-dong Heritage Site

On April 29, Gangdong District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soohee) announced that it will host a hands-on "Children's Day event" at the Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site on May 5, Children's Day, where children and their families can participate together.

This event is characterized by its focus on participatory content, allowing parents and children to experience and interact together, rather than simply observing programs. It is designed so that participants can enjoy both play and learning through a variety of hands-on activities themed around prehistoric life.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a total of four family-friendly performances, including a magic show, bubble show, and balloon performance, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.

The experience programs are also abundant. At the prehistoric village within the heritage site, visitors can directly experience Neolithic life through activities such as fishing, archery, and making accessories. In the courtyard of the Amsa-dong Prehistoric Museum, traditional games such as Tuho (arrow-throwing), rolling hoop, and stone-stacking will be available at all times, providing opportunities for intergenerational empathy and communication.

Programs that put children in the spotlight also stand out. The "Shell Market (Children's Flea Market)" will use seashells as currency, allowing children to exchange goods and naturally learn economic concepts. The "Prehistoric Drawing Contest" will give children the chance to freely express their impressions of the site and prehistoric culture.

Throughout the venue, there will be clown balloon performances, face painting, and roaming performances by "Woombs," the Gangdong District mascot. The "Prehistoric Booknic," a rest area for families, will offer a relaxing space to enjoy books together, and various food trucks will also be available to provide a range of food options.

Lee Soohee, Mayor of Gangdong District, said, "This Children's Day event has been organized with an emphasis on hands-on experiences so that children and parents can participate and enjoy together. I hope it will be a time for all families to create happy memories while naturally appreciating the value of our prehistoric heritage."
