Nonghyup Distribution, which operates the Hanaro Mart chain specializing in agricultural and food products, announced on April 29 that it will hold a cucumber discount promotion to mark so-called "Cucumber Day" on May 2. Cucumber Day is an anniversary designated by the Rural Development Administration in 2002 to boost farmers' incomes, inspired by the fact that the number 52, representing May 2, is pronounced similarly to "cucumber" in Korean. Hanaro Mart will sell a pack of five white cucumbers for 1,990 won from April 30 to May 6, and customers who pay with an NH Card will receive an additional discount. At the Hanaro Mart Yangjae branch, on May 2 only, a pack of five white cucumbers will be discounted to 1,490 won, and if paid with an NH Card, one pack (five cucumbers) will be available for 990 won.
