A man in his 40s who assaulted a postal worker after claiming he was cut off while driving, and then struck a responding police officer and fled the scene, has been handed over to prosecutors while in custody.
The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul announced on April 29 that Mr. A (42) has been sent to the prosecution in detention on charges of obstruction of official duties and aggravated obstruction of official duties.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of knocking down and assaulting a postal worker, Mr. B, also in his 40s, who was delivering mail on a motorcycle and waiting at a traffic light on a road in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, at around 2 p.m. on April 21. Mr. B suffered injuries to his back and neck and received hospital treatment.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that "Mr. B cut into his lane." Initially, the police arrested Mr. A on the spot for assault. However, after confirming that the assaulted postal worker was on duty at the time, the charge was changed to obstruction of official duties.
Mr. A is also accused of hitting the police officer who responded to the report and fleeing for approximately 2 kilometers.
