KOMSCO Launches First Currency Goods Reflecting Public Ideas

The first currency goods products reflecting public ideas are set to be released.

The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced on April 29 that it will launch the 'moneyLAB' series, a currency goods platform.

moneyLAB is a participatory platform that continuously accepts ideas for products, services, and businesses utilizing by-products generated during the currency manufacturing process. The platform is designed so that anyone can participate in the currency goods business with a single idea.

Idea submissions began in December last year, and as of this month, 55 proposals have been made. The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation reviews the submitted ideas, selects the final products to be released, and then proceeds with modifications and improvements before turning them into actual products.

The first products will be released sequentially from April 29 to 30. The upcoming moneyLAB series features two items, 'Money Diamond' and 'Lucky Coin,' each expanding the meaning of currency in a unique way.

'Money Diamond' Premium Commemorative Plaque. Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation

The first product in the moneyLAB series, 'Money Diamond,' is a premium commemorative plaque crafted in the shape of a diamond using by-products from four types of currency. Designed as a commemorative object that visually represents gratitude, achievement, and celebration, it comes in a DIY (Do It Yourself) kit format, allowing users to decorate and complete it themselves. The package includes a dedicated pen and stickers, enabling free expression of messages and designs. This product also won the gold prize at the Seoul Printing Information Industry Cooperative contest last year.

'Lucky Coin' Air Freshener. Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation

The next product to be released, 'Lucky Coin,' is a premium air freshener that reinterprets the symbolism of currency through fragrance. It is designed to let users sensorially experience the concepts of abundance, luck, and achievement in everyday life. Notably, it is produced as an indoor air freshener that can be placed in various environments such as offices or personal spaces.

The 'Lucky Coin' air freshener set is inspired by the 10-won, 50-won, and 100-won coins, and is comprised of three types in one set. Each coin features its initial year of issuance, allowing users to commemorate the beginning of each coin. For practical use, refill oil is included as an additional component to ensure long-term usability.
