The Taepyeongno Building near City Hall Station will be transformed into a smart office through a remodeling project.
On April 29, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the sixth Architecture Committee had approved the architectural review for the 'Seosomun District 1-2 Taepyeongno Building Remodeling Project.'
Completed in 1998, the Taepyeongno Building consists of seven underground levels and 26 above-ground floors. While maintaining its existing use as an office building, the project will apply eco-friendly designs that significantly reduce energy consumption and establish a smart work environment. Technologies that automatically control sunlight, daylight, air conditioning, and lighting will be implemented to achieve substantial energy savings. The building's exterior will feature a full curtain wall system, enhancing both the sense of openness and the architectural aesthetics.
Accessibility to the public open space, which connects to the Sajong-daero Green Promenade, will be improved to provide a relaxation area within the city center and create an organically connected pedestrian environment with the surrounding area. A new accessible ramp linking the main entrance will be installed to improve convenience for people with mobility challenges. Diverse tree species and rest facilities will be placed to offer a comfortable resting space in the office-dense downtown area. Additionally, a new pedestrian path connecting Seosomun Food Alley and Sajong-daero will be established, further enhancing the organic pedestrian network between surrounding districts.
The city expects that, once the development is complete, demand for leases from both domestic and international companies will increase, thereby revitalizing the local commercial area and delivering tangible ripple effects such as elevating the urban brand value.
