KOSHA and Korea Federation of SMEs to Establish Safety Net for Small Businesses

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and the Korea Federation of SMEs have agreed to establish a safety net for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

On April 15, Hyunjoong Kim, President of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and Kim Kimoon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the prevention of serious industrial accidents at SMEs.

Under the agreement, the agency plans to actively promote support programs for SMEs, provide financial support to member organizations and companies affiliated with the Korea Federation of SMEs, offer safety and health consulting, run campaigns to spread safety culture, and support empirical research on safety and health. In addition, the agency will promote initiatives to strengthen joint safety management capabilities.

The Korea Federation of SMEs will focus on publicizing industrial accident prevention projects to increase SME participation. The organization also plans to work together so that the government's industrial accident prevention policies can be accepted and implemented in the field.

With this agreement, the agency plans to further strengthen its support so that SMEs can see safety not as a cost, but as a competitive advantage.

Hyunjoong Kim, President of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, stated, "The safety of SMEs is not just a matter for individual workplaces, but an important issue for improving workers' quality of life and for national development. Through this agreement, we will do our utmost to ensure that more SMEs can easily utilize government policy support systems and achieve tangible results in industrial accident prevention on site."
