This agreement was established to jointly address Korea's next-generation high-speed medium-sized maneuvering helicopter project, in line with U.S. government priorities and policies, based on the U.S. next-generation vertical takeoff and landing aircraft MV-75 currently being developed by Bell Textron in cooperation with the U.S. Army.
The MV-75 has been officially selected for the U.S. Army's next-generation long-range assault aircraft (FLRAA) program and is currently under full-scale development by Bell Textron. On April 15 (local time), it was officially named "CHEYENNE II."
KAI and Bell Textron have agreed to create a next-generation vertical takeoff and landing aircraft based on the MV-75, significantly enhancing speed, range, and maneuverability to deliver the best possible performance and capabilities that a tiltrotor aircraft can offer.
In particular, the two companies plan to jointly review solutions such as a modular open systems approach (MOSA), which allows for rapid and cost-effective upgrades to weapon systems. They also plan to explore various opportunities for industrial cooperation as the project moves into more concrete phases.
Jo Jeong-il, Head of KAI's Rotary Wing Business Division, stated, "This collaboration with Bell Textron will serve as a major leap forward for the Korean military’s next-generation air operations capabilities. By combining KAI’s proven system development expertise with Bell Textron’s advanced technology, we will ensure that our military is equipped with a flexible and powerful weapon system capable of responding immediately to rapidly changing battlefields."
Jeff Schloesser, Executive Vice President of Bell Textron, stated, "The MV-75 is the epitome of next-generation vertical takeoff and landing technology. Korea’s next-generation high-speed medium-sized maneuvering helicopter program is an important opportunity to expand these advanced capabilities into the global market and to further strengthen interoperability between the United States and its allies."
