Korean Air will lead the airline safety policies of SkyTeam, the global airline alliance.
On April 29, Korean Air announced that it had been elected as the chair airline of the SkyTeam Safety, Security, and Quality Advisory Group (SSQ). Bennet Allen Walsh, Senior Vice President of Aviation Safety and Security at Korean Air, will serve as the chairperson of the SSQ committee for the next two years.
The chair airline of the SSQ plays an advisory role in formulating safety, security, and quality policies that are commonly applied across all SkyTeam member airlines. SkyTeam members take the lead in raising the standards of safety and security within the global aviation industry.
Korean Air plans to maximize synergy by strengthening collaboration, such as promoting key aviation safety agendas in conjunction with the SkyTeam board of directors and sharing best practices among member airlines. The airline will focus on enhancing international standards related to the in-cabin use of portable batteries, which has become a global issue, as well as on standardizing the SkyTeam Emergency Response Plan, which defines procedures, organizations, and roles for airlines in the event of emergencies.
A Korean Air representative stated, "We aim to further solidify Korean Air's influence and status within SkyTeam and to secure a broad foundation for cooperation among member airlines, thereby further enhancing the airline's global competitiveness."
